Samos Greece

Samos is an island in the North Aegean Sea and one of the East Aegean Islands. Its capital is the town of Samos, formerly known as Vathi. Samos is an island shaped by legend and beauty. It is the island of the father of mathematics, Pythagoras, the astronomer Aristarchus, and the philosopher Epicurus. It is the birthplace of Hera and the land that welcomed Herodotus and Aesop. An important trade center in the Aegean and a major naval power in antiquity, it came into contact with many of the great cultures of the Mediterranean. Its proximity to the coast of Asia Minor makes the island a “bridge” between two cultures, a difference that has never prevented the coexistence, cooperation, and friendship of the two peoples who live just across the water from one another.
